It's not your mind, but your nervous system that significantly shapes your reactions, your self-sabotage, your self-doubt. It influences how safe you feel within yourself and in contact with others. Whether you speak your truth. Whether you protect your boundaries. So, it's not your mind, but your inner sense of safety that dictates what you allow. This sense of safety can be strengthened through targeted practice. However, your nervous system doesn't learn through understanding, but through physical experience – through safety, spaciousness, trust, and coherence. STATE therefore begins where safety can actually be experienced: in the breath, in the body, in the nervous system. All it takes is 5–20 minutes a day.
For the nerds:
Deep within your brain, your insula continuously interprets the rhythms of your breathing. If your breath becomes calmer, the brain registers this as safety. This process follows the so-called bottom-up approach. Approximately 80% of nerve pathways send signals from the body to the brain. Only about 20% go in the other direction—from the brain to the body. Therefore, safety can be regulated up to four times more effectively through the body, such as through breathing, than through thoughts. And it is precisely in this feeling of safety that your body is ready for change. Growth begins where your body feels safe to embrace more of your authentic expression.
